Training for People Who Do Not Enjoy the Gym
Remove the place you dislike and keep the movements that make you stronger.

You do not have to learn to love a gym. You need a place, time and set of movements that create enough resistance to practise and improve.
Build around movement patterns
- Squat or sit to stand
- Hinge or bridge
- Push against a wall, bench or floor
- Pull a band, cable or weight
- Carry an object or hold a stable trunk position
Choose one version of each that fits your equipment and joints. Two sessions each week can be a practical start. Leave a recovery day between them when the movements are new.
Make the location automatic
Keep a band near the space where you train. Use the same corner and the same opening exercise. Familiar setup reduces the number of decisions before the first repetition.
Keep a plain record
Write the exercise, version, repetitions and resistance. Add a short note only when it changes the next session. A good record might say: counter press-up, three sets, stable, lower the support next time.
The gym is a container for training. It is not the definition of training.
